Marche's heydays at Heeren are long over, especially when its doors closed the first time. Even when they reopened at Vivocity it was never quite the same, in fact when there was a change in management at Heeren's Basement...things just weren't the same somehow.
Wild Mushroom soup with croutons ($4.80)
A soup so rich and thick, have always been a fan of Marche's soup given how most places dish up watered down Campbell's soup versions.
Cold onion loaf ($1.50) to accompany the soup! Somehow I didn't mind it too much...dig the lovely onion fragrance of the soft loaf.
Always a must order but it never fails to leave me with a "why did I order this" thought bubble. It's one of those dishes that I start off very excited and ends off
German Apple Tart ($4.90)
Ok, I prefer our version to Frankfurt's. Fits the bill for crunchy nutty top with crusty pie base and BEST of all, the stuffing truimphs the tart! I figure I must have consumed an entire Fuji apple in one dessert. Crunchy apple slices with nuts embedded...perfect for a hardcore apple tart lover.
Before I knew it, I was back at Marche again. Great for casual dining without bothering about the noise that you make.
Sundays at Marche 313 are hectic affairs...so crowded, hearing yourself talk amidst bawling babies is quite a task.
Wild Mushroom Soup with Foccacia Bread
Rich and thick soup...slurpilicious!
Roasted baby potatoes and sauteed vegetables
A different kind of cooked salad..wholesome and hearty still!
Smoked Salmon Crepe
I'll usually opt for ham and cheese but decided to eat out of the box for once and surely was not disappointed. Rather anything smoked salmon is my cuppa tea...savoury smoked salmon and plain crepe was a simple delight. Best of all, the purple cabbage gave this a lovely crunch.
Pizza Magheurita
Biscuit based pizza with a rather bland combination of tomato and cheese.
Seafood Paella
Rice was a tad soft, it was a more colourful dish visually as opposed to taste.
Rosti with Cheese Sausage
Not quite the huge fan about this, still am not.
Apple Crumble
Loved the jammy filling with melt in your mouth crumble!
Waffles made on the spot was a hit across the table as seen from the numerous plates that piled up thereafter. Still the same disconcerting bland bread texture for all waffles. I enjoyed the Movenpick icecreams though!
Caramel sauce and honeynut icecream
Chocolate icecream with strawberries and caramel sauce
Not sure if it's me or the quality of food does vary across outlets..313's preferred of the two. I once swore off Marche for its sub standard food...well maybe not anymore. I'm not quite about to book arrange a dinner at Marche as top of the list but it still belongs to the list of "once in a while".
