Veganism is a type of vegetarian diet that excludes meat, eggs, dairy products and all other animal-derived ingredients (about.com). Judging by the number of vegetarian eateries and restaurants opening, it seems to be gaining alot of acceptance by the general public, vegans or not.

table

Corner seats has a certain solitude that attracts, somehow.

order no

Five flavours of burgers up for grabs..Hawaiian Pineapple was sold out for the day.

juices

All set meals come with seaweed fries and juice. The salted fries were served lukewarm and peppered with seaweed. Juices were apparently made from scratch without preservatives. They were a tad watered down.

burgers in army trays

All sitted snugly in an amyboy's metal tray.

pepper crack

Cracked Pepper Mayo ($9.85)

pepper crack bitten

Fried vegan patty made me question...how healthy is it. The patty had all the works of a similar burger in the fastfood joints. Moist patty with a texture that resembled that of a potato patty. Dressing was not as robust as I'd have expected.

bbq sauce

Smoky BBQ ($10.85)
tomato, alfalfa, organic rye bread

The patty was drenched in BBQ sauce and best of all, it could barely hold up on its own even with the minced mushrooms added to give it a meatier bite. The basic I would expect of a BBQ burger is some form of smokeyness but this was an utter letdown with all the mush.

satay sauce

Nom nom?

satay sauce bitten

Char-Grilled Satay ($10.85)

The satay sauce was made visible by the dripping oil from the other end of the burger..barely the nuttiness promised though. The patty was a tad soft (though firmer than smoky bbq!) and mush with mushrooms embedded.

Tangy Tartar ($9.85)

The closest VeganBurg's has got to junkfood...or Filet-O-Fish if I may suggest. Breaded cutlet with a delectable tartar sauce.

The aftertaste that lingers is acquired..personally not too huge a fan of vegan food. Much like garlic's aftertaste, no matter what else you eat...it does not go away. The prices are reflective of the quality of ingredients used as opposed to junkfood. Loved the breads used...very wholesome!

  1. Haha totally agree with you. Those weird vegan/vegetarian foods have this eoiwww lingering taste & smell that never go away. Totally hate it. Same goes for protein bars & pseudo foods containing soy protein. Give me real meats!

Why can't they just eat proper vegetables & beans instead of mock meats? The meaning of veganism and vegetarianism is totally lost here.

But no phoebe! Filet-o-fish doesn't taste fake. I like filet-o-fish! My favorite McD's burger.

  2. yess...i still recall the acky lingering taste!! Yes, still a hardcore carnivore. :P

I suppose the vegans wanted variety? So they explored this other option?

Ohhh noooo, I meant filet-o-fish is mega yummy and their version was close to it. Possibly the only burger of the 4 attempted that was close to the real thing! I LOOOOOOOOOOVE my filet-o-fish tooo!
