Replacing Bakerzin is Coffee Stars by Dao, a Thai cafe that has taken the mall by storm...literally. Queues form every single weekend and getting a table is a pain which ups the "must try" factor by leaps and bounds.

Blue surroundings and chandelier made this more chi-chi than thought.

The cakes I wanted to try were either sold out or not made for the day so I ended up with caramel cheesecake.

Before I could even get my order, I had to go through a series of unnecessary service glitches.

1) The kitchen is obviously disorganized when the waiter had to check every single cake preference (from their famous coconut rolls to yam cake...the list continues) I had without much of a clue. He claimed that there were "other cakes available" apart from those out in the counter but turned out, they only served those found there!
2) Coffee and cake was served separately.
3) Cake took almost forever to come, thank goodness it was not forgotten like the other table.
4) When it arrived, it came with the plastic wrapper. Probably considered a norm since all slices of cakes were served with the wrapper.
5) The second fork took longer than forever.

All this while, I watched the disgruntlement build up amongst the other diners. From returned coffee cups with stains to wrong orders to forgotten ones...Coffee Stars needs to look into their service level to consider itself being fully operational.

Ranting aside, the cake was too sweet but loved the crunchy crust and walnuts. Decent cheesecake but having to go through yet another big hoola for the next visit? I'm not too sure about it.
