Cake Spade @ Orchid Hotel

cake spade

Cake Spade, taking a jab at the unanimously known American brand is causing some buzz at Orchid Hotel though some other posts have suggested that the real intention of the baker was not to bear reference to the famous brand but to refer to the cake and the spade to scoop the cake.

For the numerous times that I've waltzed by, it was reasonably filled and the night we decided to drop by, it was full and brimming with people.

Well, word travels and the crowds are expected.

Strawberry Tofu Cheese ($5.90)

strawberry

No-bake cheesecakes are easy peasy desserts to make, even if it did not please visually, the taste would hit nearly all notes. In short, it is harder to achieve a visually stunning piece as opposed to a deliciously memorable one. The jelly layer is thick enough, strawberries studded quite evenly  and tofu cheese light enough for a whimsical dance on the tongue.

So yes, the craze about their tofu numbers are justifiable. If strawberries are not up your alley, there is a peach version available too.

hummingbird

Hummingbird Cake ($5.90)

Banana pineapple cake topped with coconut shavings to bring tropicana alive. I love my banana loaves, breads and tea cakes but this did not work for me. Somehow too complex for the tastebuds to relish and the sweetness was way too much. Despite being a hardcore carrot cake fan did not help in this case either.

cupcake

Red Velvet Cupcake ($3.80)

red velvet

Almost as good as twelvecupcakes. Almost, I would say. A weebit more density could do the job here.

iced americano

Americano ($3.20)

A surprise one here, caffeine addict is satisfied.

Having my desserts served in cake pans was a novelty indeed. Tofu cheesecake or nothing at all, at Cake Spade's.
