Symmetry has become my official brunch place this year, clocking in 4 visits in a span of half a year and well more, with the way that I'm spreading the word for them. With the 3rd and 4th visit concluded in this entry, I would have tried nearly every item on their menu - perhaps time to include new items or for me to upgrade to dinner!
Taking an artistic swipe at the holy.
One day I'll sit by the counter to dine!
Still loving their corners!
Portobello Mushroom Soup ($16)
Deconstructed mushroom soup with a piping hot earthy soup to go with truffled mushrooms, poached egg and toast - loved how the elements came together and soup is not just cream of mushroom soup.
Sold.
Symmetry Caesar Salad ($18)
Romaine lettuce, caesar dressing, pancetta, quail egg, toast, smoked salmon
Caesar salad hardly goes wrong and likewise for this, it was safe with an adventurous streak with quail eggs used to up the cholesterol levels by a few notches.
Prawn Popcorn ($14)
Wasabi seaweed remoulade
Same old kind of delicious, hence the repeats.
Delicious in morsels.
Corn Fritata ($17)
Potato, crab, avocado, spring onion, tomato, cheese, corn, egg, mesclun
A new contender on the dining plate with crab and corn in one pancake. Flavour was on the flat side for this so not a fan, unfortunately.
Bacon and Cheese Rissoles ($16)
Apple cider, onion dip
Bacon yes, cheese no. These rissoles are potato balls with a delicious dip.
Big Breakfast ($24)
2 eggs, maple glazed bacon, chicken cheese sausage, hash potato, mushroom, tomato, mesclun, jam, toast
I consider this Farmer's breakfast with everything from the barn on the plate - weep for the pigs really, poor hogs ending up as bacon and chickens in a sausage. Decently portioned for two small eaters, a sunny way to start the day methinks.
Truffle Eggs Mushroom ($21)
Truffle, scrambled eggs, saute wild mushrooms, tomato, hash potato, mesclun, jam, toast
Nothing to fault with well done scrambled eggs and toast. Best of all, truffle was empowering in a pleasant way.
Pork Collar Croissant ($19)
Watercress, pork collar, caramelised onion, hickory sauce
I hold my croissants in high regard, and expect a great deal out of them. Perhaps Delifrance has to be blamed for the wrong education that a good sandwich needs to have ingredients spilling over, this pork collar croissant failed for bland sliced pork collar and an equally weak croissant to match.
Pesto ($22)
Linguine pasta, hazelnut basil pesto, grana padano, poached egg, chicken, courgette
In all the complexity, this was pesto pasta with chicken. As ordinary as it sounds - even the runny poached egg could not save it.
Flan ($23)
Pork cheek, saute wild mushrooms, onion, poached egg, cream, parmesan, pommery mustard
I can never get enough of this stunning number - just beware of the overload it can cause.
Waffle ($21)
I am a fan of their waffles - presentation seemed to have improved. Full marks then!
Almost the full menu attempted, I marvel at myself and companions for being so game.
I can never quite get over ordering tea - well how bad can tea from a satchet taste?
Nectar ($10)
A banana milkshake with a dash of honey - I suppose banana milkshakes could pass off as a breakfast item on its own.
Strawberry Lemonade ($12)
Mascerated strawberries made this zingy drink easy to love - a delicate balance of sweet and sour!
If all else fails, straight off from a glass bottle should not!
Loving these gingerbread men!
Latte for the pal whose wife promptly chomped off the gingerbread man. Biscuit over coffee for the ladies!
Calpis Soda ($6)
Because I ran out of drinks to attempt - perhaps milkshakes next.
An easy to miss cake cabinet.
Somehow I always get lost in their cafe dreaming of the next big holiday or perhaps to San Fran for a first hand experience of these indie cafes.
Sitting outside brought a completely new experience too - a tip, avoid post rainy meals or risk having delays showers of blessings from the trees above.
