Sunday dimsum has taken a change for gluttony, with a number of restaurants only offering dimsum brunches (think the Asian cuisine equivalent of Sunday Champagne Brunches) with two seatings. Infact, far and few hotels in town are willing to offer ala carte or set lunches and thankfully, Royal China was one of those.
The napkins were dyed a little too pink, and strangely quite uniformly.
Beancurd Skinroll ($5.60)
Crispy delights, this is one of my favourite dimsum dishes.
Yam Puff ($5.60)
This is a unique combination of scallops and yam croquette, typically there would just be a yam croquette with stuffings and the addition of scallop was both interesting and delicious.
Salted Egg Bun ($4.80)
Infused with mango, there was little telling of its fruity origins but this was a seductively molten salted egg bun.
XO Carrot Cake ($8.80)
I love this version of carrot cake with thick charred cubes and stir fried with a delicious XO sauce.
Longevity Bun ($15)
Just ordinary lotus paste buns that comes at a pricey $2.50 a pop.
Set Menu for 6 ($238)
The hungry folk decided to have the set with the dimsum and truly, I would have contested to no end since it was supposed to be a yumcha session and on the account of that droolsome lobster noodle, I caved in.
Barbeque Combination Platter
Comprising of roast duck, roast pork and char siew, the platter was quite good, befitting of a roast meat rice takeaway!
Daily Boiled Soup of the Day
Pork rib seaweed soup that warmed the tum and heart greatly.
Steamed Sea Perch Fillet with Black Fungus and Golden Mushrooms
Stir-fried Hong Kong Kai Lan with Minced Garlic
Chef's Signature Live "Boston" Lobster Noodles with Ginger and Shallot Sauce
A complete letdown with overcooked soggy noodles and a lobster that was too strong on seawater taste. Yes, I should have raised the concerns with the kitchen but I was too full to tackle another plate of this and simply left it as that.
Chrysanthenum Apple Jelly with Diced Aloe Vera
Thankfully this was a meal saver, and in all its ordinaryness this was actually quite good judging from the quality of the set lunch.
I say stick with ala carte for lunch and avoid their set lunches - a huge cry from dinner.
